Oleg Sushkov supervises Higher Degree Research (HDR) students and has particular expertise and interest in the following areas/topics:
- Strong electron correlations
- Spintronics
- Quantum phase transitions
- Detection of cosmic axions
- Nuclear physics
In 2025 Oleg Sushkov proposes the following Honours projects.
1)"A new method of axion-like dark matter detection." The aim of the project is to develop the theory for a novel promising method of dark matter detection. The method is based on optic fibers. To some extent the idea of the method is similar to the LIGO detection of gravitational waves.
2) "Excitons in Transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) monolayers in strong electric and magnetic fields." TMD excitons are similar to two-dimensional hydrogen atoms or two-dimensional positroniums. TMD excitons is a very hot topic of research because of possible applications. There are recent intriguing experimental results on behaviour of excitons in strong electric fields. The aim of the project is to develop the theory of TMD excitons in strong fields.
