'Conflict' represents a concern for war and peace in its social, political and military dimensions, as well as societal discord in general. We possess a broad, diverse and coherent research focus on the study of what can be summed up as ‘Conflict and Society’.

We explore war and peace through societal, political, and military dimensions, and debate issues related to social and military history.

Future operations

What are the threats, risks and opportunities that military forces  face in the future? We seek to understand how climate change, rapid advances in technology and unconventional forms of warfare are changing operational environments.

International ethics

Bringing together international relations, political theory, and moral philosophy, we debate and address ethical questions in international politics.

Space ethics

New advances in space technology and science open new worlds for humans to explore. However, not all innovation is positive, and even the development of ‘good’ technologies can have negative outcomes.

Literature, media & cultures of conflict

Our expertise lies in Australian literature and war literature. Our research directly furthers public understanding of Australian and international literary and cultural heritage.
